PETA is throwing a ton of money behind "lab grown meat" so we don't have to kill animals anymore. they are totally out of touch with reality. sure, maybe when all the farmlands are covered with super high rise housing units we will have to resort to lab grown meat, but we are animals ourselves whose bodies are designed for an omnivorous diet, including some animals and animal byproducts. sorry, i love animals too, but that's just part of life. a lion can eat meat, but humans can't? we're animals, too.

@jcous: I hate to break it to you, but meat is not at all necessary in this day and age. Having never eaten it, in my entire life of twenty something years, I've suffered no ill effects whatsoever, and generally maintained fitness levels higher than those around me that consume meat.I don't have the right to tell others not to eat meat - it's a choice one has to make for themselves, provided they know full well where it comes from and how its made. For me personally though, I choose not to eat it, and I feel I shouldn't have to be subjected constantly to people attacking my beliefs. Such lines as "we were meant to eat meat" or others to the effect of "if you don't eat meat you're a pussy" are just some of the television advertisements I've had to put up with here in Australia, and the attitude from the general population is not much better.
This is frankly, bullshit reasoning. I fail to see how illustrating a scientific truth, that we are designed for an omnivorous diet (Note: That means meat and veg) is attacking your beliefs. Honestly, the fact that 2c-b got 'we are designed for meat' from 'we are designed as omnivorous' is pretty scarey. Historically, the sharp teeth I have were not used for cutting grass.
If you have _never_ eaten meat then I'm sorry to say it but the decision was not yours. You parent(s)/guardian(s) indoctrinated you into the diet. That is your dillusion: you believe you had a choice.
If you truly believed the choice was yours, you would weigh up the pros and cons of vegitarianism to any abuse you feel you recieve as a result. The world is not going to change around you, the same as it is not going to change around PETA.
Is that inflammatory? Probably, but the truth hurts. My belief? I believe I am a better person because I'm not going to pick and choose. I eat my lentils. I eat my steak. Should one run out, I won't be crying.
