New Transformers trailer? No...still cars though.

No I lied. Its just the trailer for Need for Speed : Shift, one of 3 racing flavours coming at as this Autumn courtesy of EA.

Now, you would be forgiven for thinking that this trailer was for Transformers, because it borrows a teeny tiny bit from editing. Anyway, here it is.

Previewers are making a big deal about the crashes. Yes, this iteration of our favourite racing franchise will have a damage model - yes, it is meant to be fairly realistic. Glass cracks, metal bends, driver are thrown around eratically. Wait, what was that last one? Yup, these guys are up to no good with the feature cramming and are focussing their effort on sensory overload. We are talking about 'blurry with speed' effects, and simulation of concussion, should you visit the tire wall.

Sounds awesome, here is the trailer.

Vegitarian nonsense.

Vegitarianism is something really annoys me. I can't explain why. Its a little like religion. I just don't see why you would force yourself to live one way or another for no good reason. Now, I know people who are/have been vegitarians because they just luike vegetables more. Thats cool. Doing it because you love cows - I find that weak.

This is an extract from the comments section of Kotaku today:

PETA is throwing a ton of money behind "lab grown meat" so we don't have to kill animals anymore. they are totally out of touch with reality. sure, maybe when all the farmlands are covered with super high rise housing units we will have to resort to lab grown meat, but we are animals ourselves whose bodies are designed for an omnivorous diet, including some animals and animal byproducts. sorry, i love animals too, but that's just part of life. a lion can eat meat, but humans can't? we're animals, too.

2c-b
@jcous: I hate to break it to you, but meat is not at all necessary in this day and age. Having never eaten it, in my entire life of twenty something years, I've suffered no ill effects whatsoever, and generally maintained fitness levels higher than those around me that consume meat.

I don't have the right to tell others not to eat meat - it's a choice one has to make for themselves, provided they know full well where it comes from and how its made. For me personally though, I choose not to eat it, and I feel I shouldn't have to be subjected constantly to people attacking my beliefs. Such lines as "we were meant to eat meat" or others to the effect of "if you don't eat meat you're a pussy" are just some of the television advertisements I've had to put up with here in Australia, and the attitude from the general population is not much better.

This is frankly, bullshit reasoning. I fail to see how illustrating a scientific truth, that we are designed for an omnivorous diet (Note: That means meat and veg) is attacking your beliefs. Honestly, the fact that 2c-b got 'we are designed for meat' from 'we are designed as omnivorous' is pretty scarey. Historically, the sharp teeth I have were not used for cutting grass.

If you have _never_ eaten meat then I'm sorry to say it but the decision was not yours. You parent(s)/guardian(s) indoctrinated you into the diet. That is your dillusion: you believe you had a choice.

If you truly believed the choice was yours, you would weigh up the pros and cons of vegitarianism to any abuse you feel you recieve as a result. The world is not going to change around you, the same as it is not going to change around PETA.

Is that inflammatory? Probably, but the truth hurts. My belief? I believe I am a better person because I'm not going to pick and choose. I eat my lentils. I eat my steak. Should one run out, I won't be crying.

Two + Two = ...

This weekend my girlfriend Dani did some pondering. Was it a coincidence that I fell ill after seeing the Pleasures? After all, we were drinking and it was busy there. The conclusion? I had Pleasaids - AGAIN, and its Dancette's fault!

Common Cold?

So I've been pretty unwell for the last week and its starting to get pretty frustrating.

On Sunday I had to skip on the years best winsurfing day so far. 25-34 knots with not a cloud in the sky and I can't go because my face is having a waste disposal issue - wonderful. I was hoping to try out the strap-on GPS data-logger that my folks gave me for my birthday in January. My top speed on my old board was 22m/h (35km/h) so I'm intrigued about the performance on my smaller, lighter board in a bigger breeze.

Went to see a medical professional yesterday after being prodded to get myself some aid. The nurse did the old shirt off, listen to you breathing stuff and concluded that I had a viral infection and that I should have some Lemsip MAX and let it pass. Wonderful, thanks for that. Meanwhile, I'm probably going to need counciling when I try and ween myself off this Sinex addiction. Sweet, sweet Sinex.

I have a review of Dawn of War 2 in the works, so look out for that one. I really enjoyed that game. Something about stat based titles that really grip me at the moment.

Currently listening to No Regrets by Dope. A fine release if I'm honest, and not traditionally the sort of thing I listen to with any regularity. The guitar work is really solid and technical and the vocals are clear and powerful. Sure, the content is perhaps a little emo and self destructive but it is pleasent listening. Consider it.
